Watching our kids make such a seamless adjustment to life in another country has been a joy. Today Avery went to our favorite bakery by himself to get our morning pastries and the kids already visit the local spielplatz (playground) by themselves without any worries about how to communicate with their very limited German. The kids seem to have quickly forgotten that we once traveled to most places by car and now only want to know if we will ride the U-Bahn or S-Bahn. They’ve accepted the changes in our eating and shopping patterns and always seem ready for the next new experience (well, as long as it involves ice cream or pastries). We still have two weeks until school starts with its own set of new challenges, but I have no doubt that these kids will be ready.
